found magic knife in AZ

Post by Mike Waters »

In 2010 I found a pocket knife a couple miles up a canyon in the Santa Rita Mountains in AZ it is a stainless steel knife with wood inlays. I found it while looking for klauberi and it was up in a slide so I imagine it once belonged to a herper. The reason I am asking now is because I have discovered that the knife has magical powers and it is the secret to my success. Fundad and many others have experienced the powers of the mojo packing pocket knife. Now I do not intend to return this knife to the rightful owner as I am a strong believer in, "finders keeper losers weepers". However I would be glad to hand over a pocket knife of my own with equal monetary value to the individual who lost the lucky knife. My way of saying thank you. So I’m interested in finding out who this thing originally belonged to so they will know that it has been found and has a loving home now.

If you find a pair of RayBan Wayfarers a little SE of the Ritas, I assure you they're not magic.

I suggest that do not post a picture or any more of a description than you already have. That would not be the way to determine the rightful owner. Up to you though, of course.

Yeah I guess but I was pretty clear that they are not getting it back  then again I don't want to be sending knives to everyone that claims it by picture. I trust terry enough that I might Facebook him a picture.

At last. The elders have been expecting you.

Many herpers before have herped that slope. No one ever found a knife.

The knife chooses the herper, you realize. Not the other way around. You found it because you were ready, because you were chosen.

With great knives comes great responsibility.

I implore you and your knife to use your new-found herping powers for forces of good.

Only you can decide.

While we're at it, if anyone turns up an old metal Pentax 50mm lens cap at the base of a cliff in the Chiricahuas, please let me know, as I dropped one there while climbing said cliff in the mid-1980s. I think it was more dumb luck than magic that I myself didn't fall, though. And if you're standing there at the base of that cliff thinking about it, yes, that is indeed a particularly striking specimen of hedgehog cactus up near the top, but no, it's not worth the foolishly dangerous climb.

I never did get my 28mm Cannon lens off of the top of El Capitan (El Cajon) but then that's another trip I didn't want to make twice after scaling the ridge.

You guys are getting a little off topic. Lets not forget that this is about my magical pocket knife. Why hasn't anyone asked me what magical things have happened since the finding.

You found a gila monster (that wasn't an AZ F&G plant), 1938 lepidus, 25 willardi and bag of money?

Oh, and it's my knife. Handles old and worn, those carvings are just random abrasions from over the years, the blade's flecked with small rust spots and dried blood (watch which way you cut with it!).

Thanks Jim. But I can't talk about it as of yet. though on my way down from the talus I found my first klauberi and that was where it all started.

So... now you're not gonna talus? I'm confused. Btw... not sure if you caught it, but someone who 'masterfully baits' people could be called a master baiter...   jim

I lost approximately $248.39 at Snake Road a few years back. It was made up of various pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters and bills. If you find it, or any part of it, I would appreciate it being returned to me. I was planning on using that money to buy a knife to replace to one I lost.

That must have been "magic money". Those lost pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters keep turning up beside small herps.

Wow...we have some serious ball breakers on FHF. Thanks to Chris McM., hellihooks, Andy, and M.J. for the chuckles. I found a nice "Leatherman" multi-tool once while herping....but it doesn't have magical powers.

You mean, through simple carelessness? I can't imagine that there are many gun owners who would let such an outrageously irresponsible thing happen, nor who would be ok with another who did. We're talking a deadly weapon, here...

Hopefully it wasn't lost in the woods where a bear could pick it up. Nothing more dangerous then a wild animal with a gun.

A knife is considered a tool that in some circumstances could be used as a deadly weapon (as could a great many other thngs, including a rock). Not at all the same thing as a gun. You're not really suggesting that a gun owner has no special obligation to keep his/her gun(s) safe, are you?

Guns don't kill people. Bears kill people. (bears with guns kill people?)

But I have a more fundamental question: if this knife bestows luck on its owner, how was it lost in the first place? Or was losing it fortuitous?

(lots of clever comments in this thread, guys. I'm impressed. And people think you're just ruggedly handsome, highly-skilled herpers!)

So now the obvious question becomes, why was it put there? :?

I'm afraid I don't agree at all. It seems extremely irresponsible to me. Did your friend at least report the loss to the police afterward, so if/when the gun turns up after having been involved in a serious accident or crime the police don't come looking for him/her?

Someone lost a gun! Flip out, panick, call the bomb squad, the ATF, and the UN!

This isn't like a knife, it's a gun, shut everything down!
