Re: "Spring" in SoFla.
did you emboss those habitat shots? i think i went blind looking at them :p
Re: "Spring" in SoFla.
The Seminatrix shots are cool. They're interesting little guys.
Re: "Spring" in SoFla.
Very nice Josh. Seen a lot of these already, but some I definitely have not. That mud turtle is COVERED in baby leaches. And you can just barely see what's left of a crayfish in that pig frogs mouth. But my favorite is still that fluorescent leopard; crazy color!

Cool stuff. I like the chorus frog and the amphiuma. What's up with some of those habitat shots?

Sorry, I got distracted by the pig frog with a pin going in the tympanum and out the other side of the head. Is there a story behind that one?

Yeah the pin got me as well... also is that a crawfish leg hanging out of the mouth or are they frog toes???
Re: "Spring" in SoFla.
Well Josh you certainly have some great reptiles and amphibians down there and well photographed.
The Yellow Rat Snake seems to go on forever in the first shot. Also enjoyed the grumpy Southern Toad.
Thanks for posting these.
(I think I prefer the views unphotoshopped)

Looks like crawfish - i think the other side of the "pin" is the antenna.

That's an insect on it and the other side is the antenna of the crawfish like Holbrook said.umop apisdn wrote:Sorry, I got distracted by the pig frog with a pin going in the tympanum and out the other side of the head. Is there a story behind that one?
They're my attempt at HDR. I really like the over saturation and vibrance for some reason....guess others not so much.MHollanders wrote:Cool stuff. I like the chorus frog and the amphiuma. What's up with some of those habitat shots?
Yeah I watched him grab the crawdad, it happened to quick to get a photo of, I got the very end of the ordeal. That mud turtle was in a little mud hole which was crawling with those leeches, so I removed him and placed him in a deeper body of water, hoping the leeches would disperse.JakeScott wrote:Very nice Josh. Spring isn't warm enough at night for me, I like the blistering heat and smothering humidity. The bugs are just a minor inconvenience to me, and I barely feel skeeters biting me anymore. Southern chorus frogs range all the way to the tip of the peninsula.Coluber Constrictor wrote:What's spring like down there? Are the bugs/heat already unbearably bad?
That swamp snake is pretty cool.

Great variety, it's really making me miss home. The Rough Green headshot is amazing! The Seminatrix is a cool find. I've only found one before. The Leopard Frog metamorphs are super cool looking!

Nice variety that makes me a little homesick for my other home. Your southern toad pix remind me how impressive those monster-sized specimens from down far south (like in ENP) are compared to those in most of the peninsula. Seems like someone might want to give them a closer look for differences other than simply larger size.

My head's still swimmin' from those habitat shots. Love the head pattern on those mud turtles. Gorgeous photography overall!

Great shots of the K. baurii, turtles don't get near the respect they deserve - certainly my favourite part of your post. How many individuals were you able to photograph? I'm guessing they are common in the area you were exploring?
