Some of 2012's herps, or "Fruit at Bottom"

Post by kcmatt »

It has been a great start to the year with the mild temps we have enjoyed in the midwest. Herps were found each of the winter months and came out in force substantially earlier than normal. The boys are getting older, and are increasing in their endurance and skill, which is fun to watch. For the snake lovers, or the Lampro-heads, the "fruit" is at the bottom.

And my favorite picture to close, the proper way for a young herper to end a day in the field (not staged by the way!)

Looks like you've been doing well. Would be nice for ID's to go along with the photos though.

Cheers,

Sorry, Rob, not enough time these days. Barely had enough to get it up and the way Photobucket names my pics (to avoid locality information in the title) each photo is a garble of letters and numbers. Lining them up to which one goes to which takes more time than my schedule right now gives me. I prefer the same (at least more narrative and tags on less common species) and I know that most do, but unfortunately would be this level or nothing right now. In the interest in spreading the spring fever, I went ahead with it as-is. Would be happy to provide species info on any, as well as backstory/data to an extent if you have any questions.

NICE!! Matt, this season is off to a very quick start I just hope summer doesn't get here till atleast June. This rain should definatley get everything moving in our neck of the woods going to be a good spring, hopefully no floods this year or bad tornadoes

Great start for the year Matt!

You always seem to find the early lampros every year! :thumb:

With all this rain it could be an awesome Spring!

I can't see any of the pictures. It says your photobucket bandwidth is exceeded and wants you to go pro.

Thanks, guys. Corey, sorry for the pics' disappearance, they are back up now as you should be able to see.

Brandon, yes, here's hoping that we don't get June weather in April-May, I'm ready for some upper 60s lower 70s, but can't complain!

Thanks, Mike and Andrew, a great March indeed!

Gary, I agree, it has been great so far, several more milks yesterday! Looking forward to seeing pics of your finds as the spring goes on-- see if you can find a Ringed Salamander on a glade for me this spring. I might come out that way to look for one (and all of the other great glade denizens!) The larva above is an annulatum found this month at the far west edge of their range, can't get myself in their habitat in the fall to find an adult!
