Did some herping the other night to fill in some gaps in the NAherp.com database. Found this guy on a fencepost along the way.
I screwed up the flash and exposures (one shot had good focus but underexposed, one shot OOF with good exposure)
Anyway, here's what I could salvage. I had to bring up the light from the underexposed shot and ended up with a lot of noise, but its still the best Barred Owl photo I have.

Re: Herping bycatch
Ive been trying to get photos of some of the many owls I run into and haven't been able to get a good one so far.
I run into a ton of nightjars in the desert... but in the San Gabriel Mountains.... they are always on the road at night, haven't managed yet.
Good job.

Always fun to run into while herping. Great shot!
