Cold water and the best fishing buddy.

Post by BillMcGighan »

Since winter is upon us and it's a time for scanning old pics, I found these to share.
.
When my wife and I were married, she had never fished!!!
This had to be remedied immediately, so I started her fishing education immediately, and soon she had landed Blues in the Atlantic, Largemouth in Florida, Smallmouth in Michigan, Rainbow and Brown trout in our Tennessee tail waters, but when we moved to Virginia, she got to experience wild Brook.

She took this so seriously that when we came to this very (about 10 feet) chasm in bed rock, she had to cast her spinner to the head of the pool. Water temp was close to 58F.
Since the pool doglegged, her best chance at a good cast was to get out a distance on a dead log.

Possibly because of her red backpack, or enthusiasm, the outcome had to be predicted!

Impressively she held on to the spinning rod. (The camera kept clicking.)

It was a cooler trip up the trail. (The camera kept clicking.)

This was 1984…. She still chases Brook Trout today at 67. A finer, more dedicated fishing buddy couldn’t be found.

Great story Bill, and even better documentation. We all laugh at our fishing partners falling in the water while in pursuit of fish, but documenting the event is rare.
I'll bet you and your wife still laugh over those photos.

Gary and Hans,
When you're retired, start realizing your life list may be turning into your bucket list, and have winter days to scan and edit, all those great shots I've seen you guys are take, herping, fishing, or whatever, with family, friends, or whomever, are truely gold.

Keep the camera clicking!!!

Great story! If you wouldn't of got photo records of it, I bet shed be telling everyone that you pushed her in because she out fished you. I can just hear it " I was on my 5th Brookie and he couldn't take it anymore so he just shoved me in" :D :D

.....OK, now, that was never proven in court; it was a hung jury......
