As an extreme bibliophile, I was pleased to receive a Nook electronic book reader for Xmas. Since I'm also a cheapskate, I've been searching for free books to download. I've been having fun finding stuff on Project Gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page. Because they mainly deal in stuff with expired copywrites, most of their stuff is over 100 years old. At first that discouraged me but once I dug in, I found some really cool old scientific books, reports and pamphlets. Stuff you would never find or think to look for but that often turns out very worthwhile. There is not alot of herp related stuff though. Not even a single Ditmars [maybe because his still sell].
My question is if anyone knows of other sites, maybe more science or biology oriented where free books can be downloaded.
I'd also love to find sites that have modern scientific publications for free downloads. I know lots of libraries and other insitiutions subscribe to journals which can be accessed by members. I'd like to cut out the middleman and download stuff direct. Any suggestions?

Re: free eBooks
I've found quite a few ebook sites. I haven't really found any books that I wanted yet though... I have a nook and I like it as well. Don't get a field guide on it though. I did and it's virtually worthless.
Re: free eBooks
graphics suck on it fersure.
You can buy all kinds of good stuff but i'm really trying to get free stuff. As much as I like the nook, I still love books. If I'm gonna spend money on a book, it's going in my bookshelf.

Re: free eBooks
I read fantasy books voraciously and I have boxes and three bookshelves full. Literally three deep on the shelves. Then there's my herp books... I'll keep buying herp books but the other stuff will go on the nook.

One of my favorites... http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/ It also focuses on older things but the resolution is exquisite. It has all of the antiquarian journals that could be found on google:books.
Also, http://www.animalbase.uni-goettingen.de ... ase/search Just animals, with a focus on 1730-1820s -- Seba, Linnaeus, Latreille, Cuvier, etc.
