Number 2 for me. The pose looks most alive and natural.

I probably would choose 3 then 4.

One looks like a badly posed DOR

Two is "snake-like", but the animal is positioned too far down to the bottom left of the frame. If there was more room on the front left corner and less on the back right, I would like it better. Assuming the snake was cooperative, I would have taken a small step to the right and turned my camera back (left) towards the snake leaving a bit more room in front. Still a good shot though.

Three is actually a pretty good "field guide" type shot. You are too far above the snake however and the coiling is a bit weird. I still like this one the best although I'm not sure I can spell out exactly why. It was my "gut" favorite as I scanned over the shots the first time.

Your position and the position of the snake in the frame is better in number 4, but the snake's head doesn't stand out like a ratsnake head should because of the way he was looking. Not your fault, the snake was just looking the wrong way.

But I am being very picky. They are all pretty good and better than any black rat shots I have. If they were mine, I would probably delete number 1 and keep the rest.

I'm on the fence between 2 and 4. Those would be my pics. One looks like you had a pot bottom on it to get it to sit still and it conformed to that shape. I've had this happen many many times.
