Guards! Take that spoiled, impudent Aussie away to the dungeon!! Except that he'd likely find interesting salamanders there. Living in the cool, damp Pacific Northwest, I can only dream of the many marvels & wonders you experience each week. Like many other herpers, I loved this post. As is ofte...

Portland/Vancouver Greetings

This was an *EXCEPTIONAL* post. Scenery, flow & apparent camaraderie make for a very enjoyable vicarious visit thru your photos & prose. It's so exciting to see you younger Herpers continuing the Mission of preserving and enjoying the outdoors. Even more exciting to see the growing recreatio...

Quail is Gambels, not California

In the Sonoran Desert, CA Quail are replaced by Gambels Quail. The latter have more brown/maroon, slightly less black.

Enjoyed So Much, Thanks for Sharing

In my area of the Northwest, we have few reptiles to see, and a short warm season. I only have 1 Herper friend who enjoys both hiking and searching for Herps. It's great that you and your group of friends share such camaraderie & discoveries. Best wishes to you all. Ameron Portland, OR 0.1 Lampr...

Re: Desert/ Canyon Herping

I have only briefly visited AZ, live in the Northwest. How I envy the reptile *opportunities* of the Southwest. One day when I achieve God-like status (just joking) I plan to move to Sedona and find out what it's like to really live - and to enjoy more than 8 weeks of summer. Herp on! http://www.fie...

Enjoyed Muchly!

I've never dreamed of visiting the Pyrenees before; now I plan to make it a priority.

Re: 2007 in So Cal

Ah, to be in the area again and focusing on herping, rather than on nightclubs and concerts. I spent my 20s in Orange County & Long Beach. I spent some time exploring along the Ortega Highway and canyons of the local mountains, but not NEARLY enough time. (I recall a large Southern Alligator Liz...

You Lucky Rascal

(Hi, Nate. We went herping once in the Gorge before I moved to Medford. I'm back in Vancouver now.) You must know some terrific places with abundant cove, as your experiences in this area differ DRAMATICALLY from mine. I've been a bushwhacker for at least 30 years, and a serious herper for at least ...

Blackberry Alert, and Garter Tale

Quite enjoyable, thanks! The one photo of rocks in a clearing shows Himalayan Blackberries! Yikes!! If those are not trimmed away soon by a conscientious person like yourself, they will not only cover the rocky basking spot, they will take over the entire area with a thorny monoculture. (They...
