Snakes, turtles, frogs and sallies...another weekend in WI.
For me weekend = herping. I decided to try my luck at finding some amphibians and found a few reptiles in the process. This baby painted turtle was trying to cross railroad tracks along with 3 of his buddies. However, they were too small to climb over the tracks. A friend and I provided a helping ha...

This Timber was quite striking (no pun intended). I think it had probably recently shed.

Re: WOW what a great week for me here in the Badger State
Thanks. I'm a Canon guy. I use a 7D with a 70-300mm zoom for far work and venomous animals and a 6D with a 100 mm macro for pretty much everything else. I don't like taking photos of animals being held, but sometimes it's the only way to get a shot (i.e. racerunners).

WOW what a great week for me here in the Badger State
I've had some great finds in Wisconsin this year, but this last week was my best ever. I wasn't sure I'd ever get an opportunity to see or photograph a Glass Lizard but my dream came true. I hope you enjoy the photos. I was thrilled taking them. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2895/14704322322_b93ea6...

Nice variety John. That's a real pretty racer. Wish we had spotted turtles in Wisconsin.

Re: Some more great herps from the Badger state
Yeah, I think our racers are real pretty snakes. Many have real nice yellow or yellow-green bellies. I've been pretty luck with my eastern milks this year although I did find a real 'ugly' one last week which was less attractive than many of the watersnakes I've seen lately. I saw a couple awesome l...

Hi John, yes all the herp photos I posted (including the skink) are of animals that were found in Wisconsin this year.
Thanks for your comment.

Re: Some great finds in Wisconsin (spring 2014)
I thought it was a leopard frog due to the green highlights around the spots, but I'm not sure.

Now worries, it was a bit awlward for me also. The local with the nice boots broke the ice a little bit Everyone was waiting for someone else to respond to his question. It was sort of priceless.

Re: Some great finds in Wisconsin (spring 2014)
Hey Ben, how's it going? No worries about me, I actually don't even own a hook. I have enough trouble lugging my camera and lenses around. If I had a free hand it'd be holding a tripod. I think saugas might be more work than I'm willing to commit to right now but I'm still hoping to photograph a gla...

Re: Some great finds in Wisconsin (spring 2014)
Hi Troy. I know a spot in central Wisconsin that has some really handsome fox snakes. I still have a glass lizard and a Massasauga on my hope to find list Actually I'm going to focus on frogs and turtles for a little bit.

It's been a great 2014 so far here in Wisconsin.
