Re: Introduced Herps of Southern California
Interesting on how the homeless were protective of the Nerodia and turtles. The only wildlife they know. :( Admittantly, the first critters I got my hands on were bullfrog tadpoles from a city park. They were certainly inferior to our native frog/toad species in taking 1.5 frickin years to become fr...

Whatever it is-it is definetly one of the ugliest snakes to grace this planet LOL. The question would be what normal gopher x rat crosses would look like.
Still no comments on the albino Brahminy blind snake? That thing is way neat-wouldn't mind one myself I'll admit.

Can't believe no one commented on the pink Brahminy blindsnake. How does that work...being that they are parthenogenic this must have been a spontaneous mutation.
So it seems those albino spadefoots are excluded from F&G regs if they are CB from these WC albinos.

Neat photos of some awesome stuff. With I saw some Bothriechis when I was in CR.
That sleeping hummingbird appears to be a white tip sicklebill, unless anyone who really knows birds wants to contest this ID.

The critter next to the California treefrogs is a ferocious water bug Abedus herberti-a dad carrying eggs on its back. Could I get a general location on where that photo was taken?(CA or AZ?)

Re: How to make a simple lizard noose?
I simply tie the noose to the rod. A long thin branch or a section of bamboo(and other things) works just as well. Curious what knots most people tie on the ends of their nooses? I usually put on a simple double not or clinch knot, then thread the other end thru it resulting in a loop. If you are re...

Re: Eek! A Snake! (NE repost)
I just had to hop in on this topic and say my fascination with snakes started in a similar way yours did. My family had found a snake(not sure what sp. it was to this day-the memory is a gartersnake) which they had then proceeded to butcher with a shovel, telling be "snakes are bad". I too...

Re: your most experienced lure(most fish caught on one lure)
^Spam above in case anyone didn't catch that. Funny you mention finding lures while diving-I've always speculated on how many are in lakes etc. people fish in. I darn near stepped on a huge bass plug with double treble hooks while playing in a lake-didn't think to keep it due to my disgust at the th...

Re: SoCal Endangered species herping, part 4
Sam: Suppose you microchipped animals and then set up something that could scan for microchips and place these in special retreats(artificial retreats) that would scan incoming toads for microchips. Placing these around the mountain and near hypothesized routes might give an idea of any movement occ...

Re: SoCal Endangered species herping, part 4
Fascinating. You mention B. boreas disperses miles from the breeding site. But how far can they be from water? It seems to suggest that some of these toads are undertaking long trips to refill their water supply(and it seems thy must do this frequently) which I find quite mind boggling.

Being in Long Beach myself I am quite interested in the "Long Beach Mud morph". I'd love to see one in the wild...but I guess it would be nice to at keep one or two so I could show people what used to live here. It seems that the LA area is a area of a lot of genetic diversity for kings......

Re: your most experienced lure(most fish caught on one lure)
Neato...bummer on that spoon. I lost one in a similar manner. The problem with unknown stuff, I've heard(and observed with a few cheap swimbaits I bought) is you have no idea how they will look in the water, They may look ok in the package until you dunk em and realize they've got about as much acti...

your most experienced lure(most fish caught on one lure)?
I've recently gotten somewhat serious into fishing(or rather, changing it from just luck and a bit of powerbait to researching a bit and trying out some hardware). I am curious what the most fish anyone has caught on a lure before losing it. I know more experienced fishermen tend to fish their lures...

The zoomed out pics show how important it is to have a search image...if you don't know what is in the photo it is much harder to find it.

Interesting on the whiptails-I have yet to be able to noose one when I tried(but the group I was targeting were very shy, elsewhere I could approach whiptails within 5 feet and stand a chance at grabbing them-here they would start moving off when I got within 10 feet)...they seemed to know the noose...

Interesting esp. the albino shovelnose. I've never heard of anyone keeping these or sand snakes(chilomeniscus) in captivity before...I always thought they were neat looking and wouldn't mind trying my hand with them.
