Are you serious? I've certainly taken advantage back home. The bulk of these, are a same species, Procambarus clarkii, that is an invasive here in Arizona. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-YKppUcLtzRc/UEz-85RWZvI/AAAAAAAAA9A/rbMl8l_npbU/s800/CM1.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-yjZbiu_GfRc/...

Re: A Successful First Field Trip

Brian, Might be the crayfish, but I really have no idea. I've been too busy chasing herps since I've been here to really look into complexities of this sort. I have a great deal of experience working with and studying crayfish back in the midwest, and I was blown away to see the sheer mass of them i...

Thank you all for the comments, they are very much appreciated! As far as the "protected" frogs are concerned, please keep in mind that, while they may be locally abundant, they have lost a large portion of their range to Rio Grande leopard frogs and bull frogs, and what's left of the limi...

Re: A Successful First Field Trip

Mel, in actuality, Mary typically doesn't want to go herping with me either, even road cruising :( The promise of water and a respite from the heat is the only reason she ended up in this photo. Also, sadly, the net is only in her hand for use as a walking stick so she wouldn't fall...Damned reality...

A Successful First Field Trip

My girlfriend, our baby-to-be, and another friend took a field trip the other day to a nearby creek. This was mostly to escape the heat of Phoenix, but also in the hopes, mine anyway, of life listing a lowland leopard frog. We were successful so I’m calling this my baby’s first field trip. https://l...

Night Photography and the LumiQuest SoftBox III (w/photos)

Moving to Arizona has introduced me to a very different kind of herping than that I was used to back east. Flipping is not a realistic option, here you have to find things when they're active and on the service of the ground. This means herping at night for much of the season. Sometimes I'll bag a s...
