Re: Foothills of the Himalayas
If on the central region, Tibetanus would be an awesome find. I forgot to mention - my friend whose house I was staying at got bit while raking leaves last year. She never saw the snake in the leaves, but from the location and symptoms I think it is fairly likely that it was a Himalayan Pit Viper (...

Re: Foothills of the Himalayas
Ashoka Captain and Whittaker 2005 I believe. On average they are found at around 1,250-2,000 meters. Also from the ICUN red list. I cannot be sure however. There's a lot of montane species in the himalaya region. If on the central region, Tibetanus would be an awesome find.

Definitely try NJ for a bit. The north has a lot of things to offer. If you plan carefully, a drive around the piedmont can be less than an hour. Otherwise, PA would be a good choice. The pines are touch as Bob said at this time, but it is still worth a shot. I'm sure any day herping here will offer...

I would have cried if I were to see all those taxa. :( Have you found any Gonyosoma oxycephalum in life? The cave varieties up in the upper Sabah and Kinabatangan River regions are freakin awesome. The adaptations of those guys in the sinkholes is such a great example of speciation and evolution. It...

Re: A bit frustrated, looking for advice...
When flipping rocks, the ratio is anywhere from 1 snake per four hundred to a thousand. Then again think of what rock you flip or what rock has an opening/ the density or known areas. Lots of times its just about luck. Still, an ambystoma would be a nice find. A\C is much better for snake flipping. ...

Maybe try to find the two thamnophis there. T. Marcianus bovalli is rare, and if you find one. That would be one of the first alive photos. Don't know much else about the country, except the herpetofauna is similar to costa rica.

Wish taxonomists would decide whether to scrap the genus or to keep it the same. Although Vogel seems to have presuaded to scrap at least some of these new ones. If only other snakes were like that.

Think it is also a good idea to tell the rangers you are present, so they know you are herping and not in the middle of the pines acting like Bigfoot or doing illegal substances.

First of all, the Pines and PA are like that. Sometimes the same area may produce tons of Pines and Corns, but sometimes nothing. Learned that the hard way. A few years ago, I felt that same way too. . Beautiful Fence Lizards however. Keep at it, and you will eventually strike gold.
