Yep. That color is typical when young (stonger oranges) but usually fades to golds when they age. Not always though, of course.

Like Berkeley said, it's a B. terrestris - they grow them real big in and around some of the pine rocklands in ENP and Big Cypress.

Wow, delving into the archives - FloridaSerpent, just keep at it, almost everyone has some really cool stuff just out their back door. MY best advice is to try lots of times/conditions/methods and keep at them. Once you've figured some out, spend half your time on the "tried and true" meth...

Good stuff, and a great improvement on photos already!
The racer's scales superficially look like an indigos, but I think you maybe tweaked the contrast or something else a little to far on it, and that's what's giving it such deep black scales?

When I had 100-200 boards out at my local nature preserve for a survey, it didn't seem to affect the numbers of snakes to check them every other day (which I did for a time) - especially for the half land/half aquatic boards.

Hey FloridaSerpent, I figured I'd chime in since there's a lot of good information here, but some of it doesn't apply to South Florida. My advice would be to search for some of southern Florida Wildlife Management Areas (WMA's) and cruise them. Though many don't allow collecting the rules and regs a...

Sorry, I guess soul patch is incorrect since it's above the mouth. Hitler mustache? The yellow bar above the mouth. They also have two other yellow bars going laterally from the mouth, but Pig Frogs in SFL often have that too.

Yeah, definitely a cricket. And the tadpole is a pig frog - those and leopard frogs are going to be 99% of your tadpole catch in fish-dominated wetlands in SFL; and leopard frogs will have a "soul patch" (i.e. - https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3956/15628759552_3cac09a300_c.jpg ) Welcome and...

On cold days they go down under cover or ground, but you can find snakes on any given day if the temps get up into the high 60s/70s/80s and sunny.
