Re: Herping road trip; could use some advice...

Welcome Entomancer, The important thing to know about the Mojave desert (from extreme SW Utah down into CA) this time of year is it will be HOT. (Be sure to carry lots of water as you travel the Mojave) Rattlers and Coleonyx will be nocturnal, and road cruising will be your best bet- fortunately sid...

Re: Upcoming 2014 Field Trips

Not to pile on, but the Bundy ranch is just off of hwy 170, the I-15 exit just south of Mesquite. It looks like BLM has backed down for now to try to defuse the situation, but I heard the exit on I-15 was closed briefly over the weekend during a scuffle.

Re: Member Biographies

Greetings All, My name is Steve Stocking, and I've been a reptile enthusiast and conservationist for more than 30 years. Born and raised in Albuquerque, I cultivated my interest in Herps with the New Mexico Herpetological Society. I went to college at the University of Arizona in the 80's where I ha...

Re: Morro Bay data point

Copy all, likewise I was there for only 2 evenings of searching, and conditions were quite cool- but still there were periodic sightings reported for many years, now no reported sightings since 2010....

Re: Trip to South Florida in March

I will also be visiting the Cape Coral area 18-25 March; I previously lived in Broward county for a year and a half and have been to the Ft Myers/Cape Coral area a number of times, although most of your desired snakes are on my lifer list as well. I also know of a couple of spots with veiled chamele...

Re: Morro Bay data point

I agree, I support removal as long as one doesn't get the cops called on them for trespassing. No argument here, I don't think the trees are Eucalyptus, but I could be wrong. The trees to the right and at top in the background do appear to be eucalyptus. Such fog could make conditions suitable, even...

Re: Morro Bay data point

I saw both posts you mention. The nearby trees in the photos are not eucalyptus. I tried to to find this location driving around Morro Bay but could not locate it, perhaps the owners have changed the landscaping. I also found this photo online, also from 2008: http://www.flickr.com/photos/doliveck/4...

Re: Morro Bay data point

Hmmm....Hwy 1 is further east than we searched- we searched along the west side of the state park, golf course, bayside and tidelands parks, and along Main Street. The drought posting is also interesting....if Morro Bay Area typically gets 25-30 inches/yr of rain, but only received 1.78 inches in th...

Re: Morro Bay data point

Also of note there are a lot of eucalyptus in the state park and around the golf course- given its toxic qualities, it may not be a suitable habitat-

Morro Bay data point

Greetings California Herpers, I saw a discussion on this post a few weeks ago about Jackson's Chameleons in Morro Bay, and since we stayed here for the Presidents Day weekend, thought we would try our luck. Bottomline we searched 2 consecutive nights, a total of 8 man-hours of searching, with negati...

Re: Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Friday June 14th

Your window doesn't really leave much time time to go very far, esp. For nocturnal Herps. It gets dark about 8:30pm. I assume you have to be back to the airport by 10:30?
