Re: Request for Information (gear junkies enter)...

How do you feel about an infrared temp gun? I enjoy being able to ping the ground temp, it's immediate, and I would imagine- more relevant than ambient temp. That's my vote. If you do get a nice probe thermometer, the next question is: Where is the best location for it? I notice my car's thermomete...

Re: Request for Information (gear junkies enter)...

In no way top of the line, but I'd probably just get one of those indoor/outdoor thermometers (~$10 at walmart) that has a sensor you put outside. Just epoxy the sensor to the inside of your back bumper or something, and call it good. :) If you keep captives, they work great for keeping track of yo...

Request for Information (gear junkies enter)...

Hello Folks.

I recent purchased a herping vehicle (1991 Toyota FJ80) and unfortunately it doesn't have a thermometer for measuring the temps outside. Does anyone know of a "top of the line" and proven brand or specific thermometer that I can hook up to my truck? Thanks,

I'm trying to get a feel for what really matters, temp wise, in terms of herps moving: Average temp for the day, low temp, high temp... we're at that funky time of year where days can get decently warm (mid 60s) but nights are still in the 20s sometimes--it's weather I'd expect to see at least some...

Jonathon, you make some excellent points. In this sense habitat and micro-habitat are interchangeable. Damage to the habitat occurs when the alteration ta...

I would throw sunflower or birdseed under the cover to stimulate rodent activity and get herps using them ahead of schedule.

I've herped south of Amarillo a few times and it's always looked stellar for milk snakes, I bet you'll find some now if you flip that stuff when it's good and moist.
