Nice post! You had a lot more luck than i did this year here in NY, thats for sure! My top two targets for the year were copperheads and red salamanders, and i missed out on both of them. That timber is gorgeous also!

Re: The Black-Eyed Toads of Bristol County, MA (NE Chapter)
So cool! I think I told you this already, but I've seen green frogs with solid black eyes and black splotches on the skin. They look crazy! I too would be curious to see the color change of the toads in a light box and a dark one, you should definitely try it out sometime! I wonder what these "...

Re: Aussie herps in habitat
Great post! In-habitat shots are my favorite kind of photography too. Im really glad Bethany Avilla started a whole dedicated group to that on Flickr!
Youve definitely mastered "the art" of in-habitat photography, i especially like the ones with the night sky in the background.

Re: Trying to Decide Where to go for Thanksgiving
Im not from Florida, but i have been to the Everglades around Thanksgiving before and it was great! At that time of year a few years ago i found my very first venomous snake, a beautiful little Diamondback Rattler. I saw plenty of lizards, leopard frogs, and gators too, but those are common everywhe...

Re: Which looks better?
Nice photos! I would have to say i like the first one better because of the lighting. The flash seems to almost always make pictures a little "clearer" (maybe not the word im looking for) than non-flash pictures. I think some people would like the second one better though because it has a ...

Re: Do milk, garter, ring-necks leave nesting spots about no
Oh sorry, i must have misread that then. Now that i think about it, if the snakes were seen as early as June, they probably weren't this year's neonates. If the OP did mean babies, they were almost certainly last year's. If that's the case, they should have already found their own place to live/hunt...

Re: Do milk, garter, ring-necks leave nesting spots about no
Yes, I think now is about the time young snakes leave their nesting areas. By now, they've probably all had their first sheds or two (garters have their first sheds a few minutes after being born), so they are getting to the point of searching for suitable feeding grounds and territories. Of course,...

Ive never found anything in my house, but i have found baby milk snakes in my grandparents' basement. Also plenty of gray treefrog and peeper youngsters on the siding of the house, but i guess that doesnt count since they were outside.

Re: Snake Fungal Disease confirmed in Georgia
This is terrible to hear! Its just crazy how this disease is spreading so far around in a fairly short amount of time. I wonder if they're doing any kind of testing and research with SFD in labs to find a way to stop the spreading. I know disinfecting your field gear can help stop field herpers from...

That's really cool that you found blue-spotted salamanders, im still waiting to find my first one! I would say that the last maculatum photo you posted with the "speckles" instead of spots is almost certainly a recent metamorph. Since Ive never found a laterale before, I cant say for sure,...
