Re: Elections
I think the important thing to remember with many of the people here in the SE Chapter is that most of the people here see NAFHA as a way to be social, meet new herpers, and see cool finds - and though we're all passionate about conserving herps, that's probably not what keeps us checking the forum ...

Definitely. I've found that if the temp is below the mid-40s they wont be out and active on the surface. The ideal is the high 50s/60s, in my experience.

Gotcha. In general, flip rocks (especially on the edge of streams) for salamanders, and you can see them out browsing by streams at night, or on the road (and everywhere) if you get rain.

Or just pop a energy drink and come up to central/northern GA during any rain... I have no clue where I would go. If I were to drive far enough north I would probably just hit the mountains and flip stuff. No need to wait for the rains. Any of the national forests... Especially roads running along ...

I'm not a NFL native, so take it with a grain of salt, but the problem may be the fact that you aren't targeting a specific species. My suggestion would be to target a specific species/group (Ambystomatids would be a good place to start) so that you can narrow down your cruising to a truncated habit...

One more update - promising weather with good chance of heavy rains this week in the area, with a big downpour forecast for Friday night. On the snake front, the Saturday of Salamania looks to be the first forecast dry day after several days of rain, so should be a good snake hiking day.

I've had a night or two where our group has pushed 50 Mangrove Saltmarsh Snakes and Florida Watersnakes (though finding in the 20s is much more typical.)
During the spring rains in this corner of Appalachia, seeing 100-200 Desmogs per hour on the road at night isn't uncommon in some areas.

Currently, you can't touch any wildlife, including exotics, in the park, as others have said; but pythons are regulated in Florida as a whole to where you cannot posses them without a permit. Re: Snake ID Request (Warning: Messy DOR)
Clarkii can survive in completely freshwater habitats no problem. In my experience it seems they don't often stray far from saltwater only because in the long run (i.e. multigenerationally) they are poor competitors with Florida watersnakes.
