Re: Choosing between low-end ultrazoom cameras
Hi Jonathan, I was in a similar boat and really still am sort of. I needed/need a camera that is small enough to carry in a large pocket, has macro, and has a good telephoto. My older 10x zoom cameras just were not cutting it anymore. Over the last 3 years I have used the Canon SX500 and was happy e...

Costa Rica Birds December 2013
So, over this holiday break for the kids, I decided to take the whole gang down to Costa Rica for some beach and jungle time. Getting out and in the deep bush was kept to a minimum with this being a family trip. However, I think we did ok. Places we hit were Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean, San Gerard...

Yeah...ha, but I still agree with Jeremy in calling out Hollywood on this. It is hilarious that with millions spent on making these movies, how often Hollywood gets it totally wrong. My favorite being the red-tailed hawk cries put in for almost every raptor species used in film.

Fun post. I liked alot of the older shots with the point and shoot, but you got some nice ones with the new camera too. You have a good eye for it. I too am hitting that point where I am thinking of shedding the superzoom point and shoot and upgrading to a DSLR.

I like this question too and yes I agree with the Monteverde Golden toad ( Bufo periglenes ). Such and icon of amphibians we have let slip. Also Atelopus longirostris or hyla calypsa would be awesome to find. Although, I do think that many species that are thought to be extinct are still out there. ...

Yes, I was trying to plan a trip to the Philippines for next year, but that may change based on how things go over there. Seeing the tarsiers was high on the list of things to see. Ha, I haven't heard someone use same-same, but different since I was in Thailand last.
