Re: Couple interesting recent finds...

A few nights ago we got a hard rain. I went out on the front porch to see if any fossorial snakes came up from under the walkway. Didn't see any, but did get a Couch's spadefoot. Here's a pic comparing it to the Chihuahuan Desert spadefoot I found the night before... http://www.naherp.com/vouchers/1...

In the AZ Chapter we have a scorecard for the data contest. I think the Midwest Chapter needs a scorecard to keep track of its members data entries. It's a way for members to keep track each year and compare themselves to other members. It's nice to see your name there and to see how others are doin...

Fantastic. This is the snake I grew up with in Southeastern Michigan. It will always have a special place in my mind, and what a great example of it. Thanks for posting.

I might as well add this one here too. Originally, I thought this was the Chihuahuan black-headed snake, Tantilla wilcoxi , but after much closer observation, in order to key out, I found that it was Smith's black-headed snake, T. hobartsmithi . Kansas is probably best in May, as is most places. During the hot summer months you'll probably want to do some road cruising. Come down to AZ this summer. There's always tons of daily lizards and nighttime road cruising finds.
