Also saw people on charter boats high grading. Putting smaller dead fish back in the water if they caught something bigger....

the saltwater is for the most part done here... How did others along the striper coast do this year? Fish numbers were low here on the cape and in New England in general. How was Long Island or Jersey? The bass seem to be crashing rapidly, just like the eighties.

I love your enthusiasm! You can get great pics without tonging and hooking the snakes though. They seem tough and durable, but you can cause them serious spinal trauma handling them in that manner. If you really need to mess with them use the hook and tongs together to give the snake more support. K...

The only education related thing I've done is keep my West Indian co-workers from killing snakes. They either would swing a shovel or run screaming from the offending serpent. Officer Sloat probably learned quite a bit about large snakes from animal planet specials. 30 short minutes of misinformation can make even the slowest appear quick witted. You all shouldn't be so dismissive about the danger here. I've watched a lot of TV lately and giant snakes are ruthless killers...

Have you found any juveniles? They are in serious trouble here in mass. Most populations consist of adults with little or no recruitment. Essentially dead populations. If you are privy to a good healthy population fill out the online form on masswildlife for rare species.

On a side note. Large ringnecks find little milks to be quite palatable.
To answer the question, I find the two species together very often in mass.
