Re: Baby Horned Lizard

I would dissagree with the suggestions to release the lizard. The lizard has been in the captive environment, for some time now. There is always the possibility that the lizard has been exposed to either a parasite, or pathogen durring it's time in captivity. No matter how remote the chance, it rema...

Re: NW Arizona Lizard IDs Needed

The collareds are definitely more Eastern, though as Justin said, collaris and bicinctores do hybridize in the Cerbats. The ones I have seen from the South East side of the mountains, looked mostly like collaris. They did have some subtle traits that are not normally present in collaris, and always ...

Thanks, Joe. Long time lurker, I rarely post. I'm in the Denver area, but try to make it to the western slope a couple times a year.

Re: Lifer whipsnake on the west slope

Very cool, man. Those collareds aren't picky when it comes to basking sites. I've seen a few basking on old dry cow patties. I've only seen the whipsnakes in adjacent Utah.

Wow! Great pictures. Looks like you found a lot of cool herps.
A Baja trip is high on my bucket list. Congrats on the C. grismeri, I hear they are hard to find. It is interesting seeing vestigium from that side of the border, as well.

Awesome post! I love the eclipse photos. The series illustrating the collared lizard behavior was also cool. How did you do that?

Awesome post! Looks like you had a great trip. I love the chuck pictures. That is one sharp gopher as well. That is one of my favorite herping destinations, I have yet to see any Coachella fringe toed or flat tails, though. :thumb: Thanks for sharing.

Awesome pics! Looks like a great trip, but seriously, no Crotaphytus? All the way to Sonora, and no C. dickersonae pics?

Looks a little odd. Maybe a color mutation, like a T+ albino blackneck.
Cool find.

Re: Over what period of time have you herp hunted in AZ?

My first visit was in September of 2000. I was fortunate enough to tag along with a couple local veteran herpers, who would be driving from Colorado to California, and back through Arizona. It was a great trip. I have tried to make it back there every year since, missing a couple years, and making i...

Re: Lizard Keepers: What kind of lights do you use?

Lucas, I have kept and bred a few leopards, though most of my experience is with Crotaphytus and Sauromalus. I have mostly used halogen flood or spot lights, depending on the situation (usually flood). I usually use either a 75 watt, or 90 watt, depending on the size of cage, and distance from the b...

Re: Chuckwalla research in Nevada

Since the desert is a very harsh and extreme climate, it is not unreasonable that a locally extinct population will take a long amount of time to be recolonized. This may explain, to a degree, the paper's findings. The only way to be sure how the population is operating is by long-term monitoring. O...

Re: Chuckwalla research in Nevada

I am a private breeder of chuckwallas, and I support sustainable collection. I am opposed to the large scale commercial collection that goes on in Nevada. I think a small bag limit is ok, like C A or AZ. In the case of commercial collection, they need to have some kind of bag limit. I thought the st...

Re: Lizard Nooses

Yep, keeping the whiptails on is the hard part. I find it is better to let them crawl through it a bit, so the loop closes loosely around the torso. How about Banded rock lizards? I have found them to be exceptionally tricky. They seem to always want to stay at least a foot out of range. I caught 6 ...

All Pituophis rule! I love bull snakes, despite their abundance in my state.
Maybe I'm wierd, I have always apreciated them. I honestly don't see the appeal in garter snakes. Much more common, IMO.

Awesome! That female is a lot darker than I am used to seeing. She almost resembles a bicinctores, with all that patterning on her limbs, tail, and head. Good job, with the pics. I have always found them to be extremely wary lizards.

I think the name is "Mi Rancho", in Yuma, Az. Awesome mexican food. Their fajita plate is huge! There is another similar Mexican resturant in El Centro, right off Imperial Ave, but I forget the name. I have never been dissapointed by In & Out Burger, or El Pollo Loco, but I only get to...
