Re: A GOOD START TO 2018

Yes, there are some nights in the fall when 100's of tiger salamanders are getting smashed on the road. It is a horrible sight.

I have the "Mountain Kings" book. The Utah info is full of guesswork and incorrect info, which is surprising. The book is written is a way that gets you fired up to get into the field, though.

"The areas that happen to contain some flippable natural cover comprise a small proportion of the utilized habitat.
Also, the areas within a quarter mile of a conveniently cruise-able paved roads comprise a small proportion of the habitat."

VERY, VERY WELL STATED!

I didn't mind the post too badly. Thanks for posting it. The handling of the GBR didn't bother me at all. The garter eating the vole was totally cool, unless you caught the vole and fed it to the snake. Then it is only somewhat cool. Rubber boas are always a good find.

It is interesting that there seems to be more interest in classifying Crotalus than triangulum. You can't just say Lampropeltis triangulum... and leave it like that. It's not right! Which is it? taylori? gentilis? celaenops?

I wasn't suggesting anything. Just being funny, so don't be so anxious to be offended. Most Utah herpers don't give out herping info on the web as you probably know. If they give out info, it isn't correct. They won't condescend to answer questions that they themselves only recently asked. They don'...
