Nice pics! Good luck on the salamanders. Hope to find some spotted and tiger salamanders this weekend up here. Lots of rain last few days around NW Ohio and SE Mich. They should be in pools by now.

Labor Day Hatchling Craziness!
Last Monday was pretty cool. My daughter and I found a snapper laying eggs this past spring off the road near our house. We fenced the nest off to keep it save from the raccoons and skunks and 103 days later 37 hatchlings crawled out of the ground! Most of the neighbors got involved too. It was neat...

Right. In the generic. I would further add that the higher the water quality of the drainage, creek, or seepage you are looking in the better luck you will have with less seldom found species.

Agreed w the above. Look at the State Parks, Wildlife Areas, and Wayne NF in the SE part of the State. Seepage and stream side salamanders fairly easy to come by.

We have a cabin up near Tomahawk and there are just miles of public land to stomp around on up there compared to Ohio where I am. Lots of diversity too. Bigtime bogs and pine forest. If I lived there I would be on a quest to find a wood turtle ... No luck yet for me, but I'll keep looking!

Agree on the book recommendation. Great referance. I have found plenty of salamanders there even with snow on the ground. Pay attention to your elevation looking for P. Jordani. They really are more abundant the higher you go! Good luck and post some pics when you get back.
