Apologies to all, especially Rich in Reptiles (RIR). rtdunham is absolutely right in that even a most common acronym, even a parameter of the “age” field in our data base, should be first defined before use. If your intent is to communicate (write to express, not to impress), it takes very little e...

I've heard locals refer to blue racers in a number of places in the southeast, but especially in Kentucky. Its possible that in some instances they saw a racer that was preparing to shed and looked blue. No real surprise there, even snake guys often refer to a snake that is in ecdysis as "blue&...

Wow! Those kingsnakes are spectacular! They certainly epitomize the best that holbrooki has to offer. I found the rat snake series interesting as well. Very similar to those we see in KY. The western diamondback photos are superb!

We have found maybe a dozen over the years Doug. Here is a pair from Edmonson county. They are not particularly common and can be rather secretive. There are two populations that I am aware of in KY.

The red eared slider, Trachemys scripta elegans is the native slider of KY and the yellow bellied slider is not known to occur in the state. T.s.scripta is the slider native to the states along the southern portion of the eastern seaboard. Your photo shows the smudge marks that are usually found on ...

I agree with the five lined skink ID. The young Ambystoma looks like a marbled salamander to me, though the color is off a little from what I'm used to seeing. Also, your slider is a red eared slider and not a yellow bellied.
