I use a Macro Lens (100mm) which has a focal length which allows to shoot reasonably close for a non-venomous snake and you can also remain at a safe distance for venomous snakes - I typically crop my images anyway, so it is okay to be further away. Always a good idea to be safe.

Thanks - yes, the Bald Eagle is making a pretty strong comeback in Ontario and
has always had healthy populations in British Columbia and Alberta

Thanks - yes, certain herp species in Ontario are locally abundant but otherwise quite difficult to find. Herping in Ontario is a lot of work, generally speaking. So I try to be prepared to photograph whatever I find in the wild so, even if I am skunked on a herp trip, I can manage to get some shots...

Hi folks Just saw this on CNN... It is unfortunate that they need to rely on a pest control company and that there is not a local herp society or individuals who could move these snakes to a new location. Cole That Millipede is pretty sweet. How big was it? The Millipede was about 5-6 inches long or so - pretty good sized Also, what's the story with the apparent buzz-cut on that bear's back end? The bear is a fairly young bear -perhaps more than a yearling and as such it has not filled out much in it...

The bear was afraid actually as most bears are when you approach in a vehicle
I was not aware that the Black Widow was this far north - but they most certainly are!
