I use a Macro Lens (100mm) which has a focal length which allows to shoot reasonably close for a non-venomous snake and you can also remain at a safe distance for venomous snakes - I typically crop my images anyway, so it is okay to be further away. Always a good idea to be safe.

Yes, Neonate Massasaugas have a slate-gray tone but when they age they tend to be more brownish

Thanks - yes, the Bald Eagle is making a pretty strong comeback in Ontario and
has always had healthy populations in British Columbia and Alberta
Bald Eagles are coming back very well in various states, most notably Florida

The second bear - I was pretty close within 10 feet - BUT photographed from INSIDE a vehicle
The others were photographed from outside a vehicle but with a vehicle close by

Thanks - Slimy do not exist in Ontario to the best of my knowledge, however, the Blue Spotted and Jefferson do
though the Jefferson are a localized and threatened species:

Yes, actually that was the only one not photographed in Ontario. It was in West Virginia- good catch
I have photographed Slimy Salamanders before but they tend to be black and have a lots more spots, don't they?

Thanks - yes, certain herp species in Ontario are locally abundant but otherwise quite difficult to find. Herping in Ontario is a lot of work, generally speaking. So I try to be prepared to photograph whatever I find in the wild so, even if I am skunked on a herp trip, I can manage to get some shots...

Cole That Millipede is pretty sweet. How big was it? The Millipede was about 5-6 inches long or so - pretty good sized Also, what's the story with the apparent buzz-cut on that bear's back end? The bear is a fairly young bear -perhaps more than a yearling and as such it has not filled out much in it...

The bear was afraid actually as most bears are when you approach in a vehicle

I was not aware that the Black Widow was this far north - but they most certainly are!
