Very interesting article, although the skeptic in me immediately questions what percentage of the "attacks" are actually snakes looking for a feed and what percentage are defensive bites (which may also produce "scars to prove it"). Obviously the Agta Negritos are a special case...

Anolis sagrei are everywhere. Bufo and Hyla are pretty common near the big lake ca Downtown Disney. Alligators in some of the lakes and ponds. Not sure of the genus, but something that resembled a Hemidactylus (too large and pale to be turcicus ) was on the same spot of our resort's wall every night.

I think (from reading Van's previous posts on the subject) that he's in the same camp I am: mtDNA clades do not = species. While it can provide useful information regarding the phylogeography of various taxa, mtDNA sequence data is not especially useful in actually resolving infraspecific relations...

There used to be rattlers around SLC, but they were extirpated in the late 1890s when Brigham Young initiated a drive to remove serpents from amidst the Saints. I use what appears to be the very same rubbermaid bucket for cleaning my snake room and it is only 11.5L which equals 3.04 gal or 389.12 oz. With the ~4oz they claimed to poor in that makes it just over a 1% ratio. I don't know what that means as far as active levels and toxicity, any takers? -Thom...

How many of you guys keep snakes? The pictures on this forum, are really making me question my keeping. I have kept quite a few species, and TBH I keep them well, however I do tend to favour fairly basic set ups and the snakes I keep do well in them, i.e. feed, shed, breed etc etc. But................
