Apparently the story got confused, they were nature watchers who look for turtles in the summer but just happened to be out hiking this day. Guess the guy fell in somehow, at least that is what I heard.

Re: emergence triggers
Yeah for me box turtles stay down but the area I'm seeing them hibernate in is not a floodplain. I do know they don't go very deep and will move around within a hibernaculum choosing the proper level depending on the temp. The are an interesting little turtle, my favorite.

Re: emergence triggers
Emergence for box turtles from my exp. is very much based on photoperiod. In my area its usually right around 4/1 give or take a few days. Also box turtles from my exp. don't come in and out of hibernation, once they are up they are up for good and once they go down its for a while. Obviously I thin...

Saw a preview of the new dual survival. Looks like this new dope kills a western diamondback for no reason, getting tired of seeing this. The Cody dude as always been against useless killing and the previous guy respected snakes, this episode pissed me off.

As an non-participator I've never been a huge fan of the count. Brown and white occurs in somewhat the same numbers as black and white. Usually just prior to shed they are more brown. If it was post shed and very brown than that would be a bit more unusual. Certain areas have more brown and white ones.
