Herping near San Antonio
Hello everyone, I am going to a conference next week in San Antonio. Looking at the map there isn't any great looking parks to get in some herping. May I please ask for recommendations? If I have a camera and binoculars, do I need a herping/hunting license?

Thanks for sharing! I recently moved to Oklahoma from Alberta and am excited for the herp diversity. Found my first snakes of the year today too, a smooth earth snake, brown snake and a plains garter. Can't wait to finally find an atrox!

Indeed these are a very pleasing type of photo layout. I had no idea the burton's lizard was from that type of habitat. I envisioned more of a tropical forest.

My initial assessment was painted turtle as well. However the carapacial pattern is much more pronounced than the painteds I have seen (granted a 1000 miles away, but all westerns). How do you guys tell the difference between a Columbia spotted frog Rana lutieventris and the Oregon spotted frog Rana pretiosa ? I have a wetland that's on the eastern edge Oregon range and am not sure what I have found. I'm thinking it's lutieventris. Do they ever occupy the same wetlands? Ian
