Looks like a big softshell to me . Snapping turtles have a different shaped nose , more like a curved beak.
Re: Snake ID
could possibly be a shovelnose . i've seen different variations in Nevada and Arizona. He doesnt mention the length . Most Likely a Longnose.

I have used a certain paint roller that works quite well . its the type for the small "weenie roller" with a long reach. i've also used grabber sticks from the medical supplier. they have folding grabber sticks that fit nice in a backpack . they work well for rattlers up to 4-5 ft.

Take the road that goes to the Colorado river .The one that passes by "Devils throat" . Go to the Colorado River and and head upstream. If any Mollossus are there they came from upstream.

They always say that Mohave(neurotoxic) venom is the most deadly , but after watching "Venom E.R." it sure seems that a Helleri bite is much more dangerous. Helleri's grow a bit larger than Scute's and have potential to give a more serious overall injury. The one episode showed an older ge...

You guys are right. What my advice would be is to use an extractor immeadiayely after being bitten...then SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION AT ONCE. The point I was trying to make is that I was careless enough ro need to use an extractor ,and it did seem to help. What I exoerinced were not dry bites.

Well....extraction may be controversial , however, if you're way out in the field , it can mentally ease the tension . the time i got bit in the Grand Canyon was my first bite ( i was younger and careless-er) . we left the extractor kit in the car ,and my buddy ran about 40 minutes to get it , while...
