Re: What's up with naherp?

Jonathan, I had your reply pulled up, and wanted to address it, but it appears to have been editted now before I had a chance to do so. I mainly want to address this point In the same thread you quoted was this statement: If there is ever talk of NAFHA taking control of records (aside from maybe cha...

Re: What's up with naherp?

At the end of 2017, I told HERP leadership that I needed to update my server to PHP 7. The code for NAHERP is not compatible though. My work load has increased, and I don't have the time to go through and rewrite the NAHERP code. I had actually set out to do it back in 2015 or 2016, and it just kept...

Re: Forum updated

Also the green highlighting. Oh... so I shouldn't change those to yellow? The theme I based this one was all green, so I was going through and changing things to the yellow. I didn't get everything, and I needed to do the images still... but I guess if people like the green... that's less for me to...

Forum updated

Hey guys, you probably notice the forum looks a bit different. With the most recent update, the old theme wasn't compatible any longer. I tried to match the look and feel the best I could, but changes in the structure make it so it can't be done exactly. The new layout should look better on mobile d...

Re: NAHERP Records and Google Earth

Have you tried rotating back around to the US to see if the records show up? Google Earth will orientate itself on the center of the points in the KML file, so if a coordinate is wrong (usually missing a minus sign), it centers itself on the opposite side of the world and not records appear to be vi...

Does it rotate to the opposite side of the world, or just stay on the default location that the app opens to?

Re: Need Your State's Regulations for Breeding Native Specie

so basically we'll ban EVERYTHING and you're guilty until proven innocent. If the law prohibits possession, rather than collection, then you are guilty of being in possession of the animal. I think that's why a lot of laws prohibit possession of native species instead of collection of them. If you ...

Mobile Mapper was made to work with HerpMapper, NAHERP, and a few other projects, so I didn't have to maintain separate apps for each one.

Are you using HERP Mobile, or Mobile Mapper? Mobile Mapper replaced HERP Mobile a long time ago.

Re: Need Your State's Regulations for Breeding Native Specie

Iowa is tricky. Garter Snakes are the only thing you can do any breeding with without any issue at all. T&E species you can't possess (even purchased) without a permit, and breeding would have to be mentioned on your permit. Game and bait species (frogs and turtles), require special licenses to sell...

Accounts were created using the same email address as used on your NAHERP acount if you did not already have an account. You can request a password at https://www.herpmapper.org/auth/reset

Re: New Data Request - Jan 26, 2016

I said no to this, and my NAHERP records apparently have been transferred to Herpmapper anyway. You said no in the comments, but did not actually vote. The system is automated, and is not able to parse comments, so the actual votes are required. Because you didn't vote, your default action defined ...

I do not manually review comments for releases, it is an automated system.

Your account is set to release your Non-sensitive data if the majority of users approve the release, and you don't vote. There was note vote for you in the system, so the release scripts included your non-sensitive data per your profile settings on naherp.

Re: mobile app available for a windows phone?

The issue downloading the configuration seems to be an issue with the build service I used. When I build the app locally on my computer and deploy straight to the phone, it downloads fine. There are some other issues that need to be worked out though. The app doesn't appear to overwrite a configurat...

Re: Questions about data collection quality with a smart pho

Some of the work I do could require me to go around finding GPS points that I've already marked out from a map, or logging a number of GPS data points in a row, or possibly even making GPS tracks. My assumption is that it would be more difficult to do those things with a camera GPS than it would wi...

Re: Questions about data collection quality with a smart pho

In addition to your other valid concerns, I'd think about trying to use a touchscreen device in a wet, muddy jungle. I have had to skip taking records when all I had on me was my cell phone. When I kayak on the river, I keep my phone/camera in a dry box, and keep a dry rag with as well so I can dry...

What are you putting in for the configuration URL? Can you try with the HerpMapper configuration as well to see if it's an issue with the URL or the app itself?

* I'm concerned that the GPS accuracy would be significantly lower than with a handheld GPS device, especially in the forest with significant tree canopy That's going to vary with each device and what they have for GPS chips. And I believe this software can be used to generate grids if you want to put them on a spherical globe
