For snakes anyway, I find the outflow boundry (wind and the smell of geosine*) just preceding a storm to be best, snakes move like crazy. Right after a storm while it is wet is usually isn't too productive unless it is the first rain or two in the season, then snakes will be out immediately to drink...

Naw, manual on tha tcamera SUCKS!, lol. I use auto focus for almost everything. The only thing I like manual for is on my DSLR when using my 100-400 at full extension, I seem to get better pics with manual.

The toad looks like a Great Plains (A. cognatus) to me. Red Spots are generally much smaller and have small round paratoids.

And atrox are never boring! Even if you live in teh middle of them, lol.

They are in the Silverbells, or at least they were, lol, haven't been there sicne the early 1970's, thats the closest I have ever seen them to Tucson. It was well know though, at least by the Uof A / desert Museaum guys.
