Actually... desktop publishing has put out some really good books but I do see what Breck is trying to say. What Breck doesn't seem to see is that the hard copy can never be replaced. I'm pretty sure that the any chemical cycle in herps is highly affected by temperature... Why would freezing be considered by many to be a humane way to put down a herp. I would think that the availability of the ions and the activity of the ion pumps are highly reliant on temperature were herps are...

VanAR... I notice that you keep saying that the metamolism in a reptile is not directly related to the pain cycle... aren't the chemicals directly responsible for the pain governed by the reptiles metabolic rate...

I believe that as temperature drops metabolism drops to the point it becomes painless.
