OMG, that alterna with the thin red crossbands and some triple alternates is a stunner! I also love your nighttime shots with the sky and stars in the background. I really miss my annual 2 week West Texas trips back in the '70s/'80s. Awesome photography Frank, thanks for the trip.

Another cry for help  I remember reading somewhere in the past that someone, or several of you, used an app to scout local areas for terrain, old buildings, trash piles, etc. Was that Google Earth, or something else? Hi all. After living in Australia for 13 years I'm back in the U.S.A., currently living in south-central Florida (top end of Lake Okeechobee). I need field guide help. I realize this is a rather older post, but I'll put in my two cents worth anyway. I bought this camera about 6 months ago and have nothing but good things to say about it. Even at full optical zoom I feel no need for a tripod and have achieved some very crisp shots of birds. My former current SLR ge...

Porter, the word you're trying to remember is leucistic (adj.), hence leucism (the condition). Kelly, why not leucistic instead of amelanistic in this case? In my old age and forgetting chit, I can't remember the exact differences between these two conditions.
