Not even a question to me....ruber. Color and/or pattern, as with a lot of Crotes, isn't really reliable. Here's a little ID trick. The darker "eye stripe" is usually much more verticle in atrox, ending before the rear jaw line. In ruber, it is usually more swept back, ending after the rear jaw line...

Yeah, great That was from like 6 or 8 years ago. I got a lot of pics I'll dig through that show a huge variety of hellis and some ruber from the same general area. A few are really unexpected types. BTW- all 3 of those AZ crotes were designated as crosses/hybrids. Anyone care to guess

Kris- a valid point for sure. I was just keeping it very simple so I could over-use those little faces.....hehe. Personally, I consider loss of habitat (all forms) the largest contributor to EDB numerical declines. As for adult size declines over the years, much more attributable to roundups IMO.

Done and done. Good to see you surface occasionally. Would be nice to see some of our herp OG's next year out and about. My time has been very limited this year as well. Just a note- there are some "very familiar" nominees in several catagories I chose to support. Maybe others will feel the same.

Hey Steve, it can happen. I've seen some rude things happen in the past at shows also. Here's probably the easy point- if space is limited anyway, concentrate on what you guys have planned already. Plenty of time to expand the booth ideas for the next time. It's all good.

FWIW- we never had any problems displaying non permit natives (lyres, glossys, shovelnose, banded geckos, desert iguanas, etc.) Especially when they are being used as educational animals. If there is room in the booth, may I suggest that displaying some native herps would help hold folks attention and promote the core interest and purpose of NAFHA. Perhaps a few "less common" ones as well (like a Lyre, etc.) It would also make for a nice change of pace from the morph and pet deli cup...

NIce find cigar smoker! The easy "gestalt" on this ID is the eye stripe. It drops down to before the rear jaw line (like an atrox) so it's a scute. The "Pacs" extend at a longer angle to behind the jaw line. Is that all you've been doing since ARC?

Ah, home herping. Brings back bittersweet memories. At my current residence we have a colony of Utas out front with a smattering of Skellys. Seen a couple of Alligator lizards also. Never expected to see any snakes here, but a hatchling King found it's way into the house this spring. Very cool. Now....
