Re: A few from Clark County
I just moved from Vegas to WY in Jan & I'm missing the herping I could be doing down there right now. Last week it snowed & blew so hard I Had a 3-4' drift in front of my garage I had to bust through to go to work. I'd found and photographed three species of rattlesnakes (Specks, Panamint &a...

Re: Road hunting blues
Don't feel alone I went out last night to the best producing road from this time last year and didn't see anything but an ancient desert bighorn that looked like his time was pretty well finished. Anyway the last coldfront went through Wed/Thur so I was a few days late for that. We were on our cruis...

Welcome to Nevada! I'm no professional herper and only get out when work, family and other commitments allow me which isn't as often as I like. If you've been out every other night you may have been out more since you've been here than I've done in the last 3 years. However, I have noticed some thin...

Alex (Viridovipera) my son Garret, and I went out last Sunday to see if we could find some Pacific Treefrogs (that I found out when I went to enter them into the database has been changed to Sierran Treefrog). We decided to hike up a narrow rough canyon with a small stream flowing through it. The hi...

Wed, I rescued a neonate gopher snake from a building at work. It was about 10-11" long and and not even as big around as a pencil & it had people in a panic. Some of them were swearing it was rattler. I figure it came out Sun or Mon and got into the building then because Tue & Wed it w...

Myself, Alex (viridovipera) & two of his friends Kirsten & Maria went up to DNWR on Sun. With the warmer than normal weather we were hoping to find some emerging Panamints & locate some dens. Unfortunately we didn't see any Panamints but we saw quite a few Side-blotches and one Chuck out...

radiata, Looks like your post got hijacked. To answer your original questions road hunting is legal but March isn't a very good time to road hunt. Usually it's still too cold at night. However, if you get out during the day and hit the sunny slopes you should be able to find some animals. As far as ...

(Did anyone else find it funny that in Nevada you can keep an elephant, wolf or camel, but not a tilapia?) If elephants, wolves or camels escape they'd be fairly easy to find & if you couldn't find them they'd pose very little threat to the enviroment because they'd probably die before they had...

Re: question about vegas
The regulation concerning the California Kings is saying that you don't need a permit for the striped or otherwise morphed snakes but you can't release them into the wild. The normal banded california kings are native to nevada so this doesn't appy to them and you just need to follow the normal rule...

Nice stuff! I love the in situ photo series. Thanks Bryan! I try my best to disturb them as little as possible. I've noticed with Chucks over the last few years that quite a few of them will tolerate my presence and allow me to get really close as long as I move slow & stay as low as possible.

I went up to Valley of Fire state park this morning hoping to find a Leapard lizard. I've seen plenty of them over the years, but as soon as I have a camera with me they go extinct. It was in the lo to mid 70s at 5:30 when I arrived and I didn't find anything moving that didn't have fur or feathers ...

I had six of them, five are grown and out on thier own, quite often I wanted to make them all step-kids (That is burried under the back steps).I hear you, some days I can't believe how much I love em, but other days I've considered putting them in military school back east

We went out to explore some new areas today. We didn't find much, except for a couple of Chuckwallas, but definetely found some areas that will be worth exploring more thoroughly later. I spotted this little juvi in a crevise: http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww216/mongulhorde/11-4-23%20-%20Gold%2...

Connie & I went out road cruising last night. It started out bad two DORs, one was a gopher and the other we didn't stop to look at. But things picked up: We found this Western Long-nosed (R. Lecontei) on a side road. I don't like in hand shots but this little guy wouldn't sit still for pictures...

Great finds especially for a cold rainy weekend. I was out in eastern Nevada too but I think I was farther south than you were and I still had temps as low as 48. I spent most of Sat in Lincoln Co and a few hours out on Sun in Clark Co.
