Ok, in no particular order here are a few of my favorite finds from Southern Utah this spring. Most of these are in situ, but a few that were obviously flipped are not. https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8728/16900430091_de466ebaa9_z.jpg Speckled rattlesnake emerging from den https://c1.staticflickr.com/...

Nice job Brian on the early garters. It's been a warm winter here in St. George as well, but 70 in SLC? Wow! I saw my first snake of the year yesterday too - a small sidewinder. Surprisingly it was on the crawl and not basking next to a burrow or denning rock. There were many turtles out basking on ...

I found the resident male Gila about 3 years ago. I don't see him often, but he has stayed in the same territory ever since. It definitely ate something that night. I think the third picture is where it is pushing the small mammal around and trying to get it into its mouth. Rye, Don't get discouraged by just finding tracks, it takes some practice. Keep following them and eventually you will find a sidewinder at the end of them. Although the sand/dirt near my house is not ideal, I find about 5-10% of the snakes I track. In good sand I'm sure you could do a lot better. J...

Jimi, As far as that date goes, I would say its about as good as any to pick if your planning this far in advance. The only risk is if we get a really warm Spring many of the snakes will have dispersed further from their dens by then, making it harder to find them out during the day, but it might be...
