Holy cow dude, that's alot of Long-Toed salamanders! Its a bummer, thats the only salamander I have caught in Washington. Congrats. Beautiful gummies. Thanks. I don't think there are any other salamanders you could find in Eastern WA other than tigers. I grew up in the ww area and never seen them (...

Thanks for the replies. I'll call it a Texas Toad for now. There was no stripe and it did look compact almost like a spadefoot. I have a belly shot of the tadpole but not sure if that would help with identifying it.

Has anyone found many herps in Big Cypress?
I lived in Naples in 08 and only found gators, cottonmouths, racers, softshells, toads, treefrogs, and a snapper in BCNP. I was new to herping then and mostly only went out during the day when I should have been going at dusk.

My pleasure. Someone mentioned hydrogen peroxide. Don't. Caustic chemicals with destroy the lamina of the bone and leave it chalky instead of shiny. Delicate bones (i.e. salamander skulls) will just dissolve. The proper method is called maceration. Bacteria are your friend. Good to know! Yeah Bleac...

One reason I didn't think it was a Rana aurora was because Peterson's guide says that the jaw stripe doesn't go to the shoulder and in this pic it looks like it does. I guess I will need to see more of these and other species to tell the difference better.
