Re: Charina bottae distribution

After some "normal" delay with the CDFW scientific collecting permitting, I received two years ago a permit to sample Northern Rubber Boas. I had discovered an incredibly dense population at a site in the Sierra Nevadas. I had always heard people having luck turning cover objects or using ...

Re: Herping the Island of St. Lucia

I got a cane toad and Johnston's Robber Frog there in 2007. There used to be the Couresse or St. Lucian racer/whipsnake but I believe it is relegated to a spit of an island east of the main island where it feeds on the equally rare St. Lucian Whiptail. I can't recall what else "may" occur ...

Re: My 2017 so far...

With a rig like that, you better be on T4R too!

Are you?

I too am hoping to get out to see a Zonata before it gets too warm. It's definitely warming quite quickly, which stinks. April was too cool and May was too busy for me. :/

Re: An interesting article on the place of science in societ

Anyone who takes the cash and buys a vacation house in Baja with it while denouncing doing so out of the other side of their mouth is a fraud and hypocrite. Also, was there a criticism of the science in that publication buried in your post? If so, I missed it. I saw the ad hominems but found them a ...

Re: An interesting article on the place of science in societ

There's not nearly enough presented on the forest canopy study to say if its flawed or not. Ideally they would have used control sites and compared those to their treated sites. Besides abundance, there are other demographic parameters that could be measured that are more relevant than abundance. E...

Re: An interesting article on the place of science in societ

But there isn't much in the way of good science to be found in a project like the one described. The processes are highly flawed. Ouch. Here's a link to the summary of the studies in case you want to confirm there isn't much in the way of good science to be found in that project like that. http://t...

Re: An interesting article on the place of science in societ

Speaking of determining canopy effects on species, I accidentally stumbled across a study site doing just that one day. They were taking out sections of forest after sampling for a time to see how many salamanders still migrated to and egg masses laid at a given site. They also had some little encl...

Re: Getting ready for tour- some recent Bay Area finds

What time of year did you find the Sierra Z? I was clued in on a great location in El Dorado County by a fellow forum member and after weeks of rain and watching temps only reach the 50s throughout much of April and May, the weather broke and it was the first day temps reached into the low 70s in we...

California Invasive Species Action Week - Nerodia

Hi all, For those of you interested in helping the state manage/eradicate introduced Nerodia here is a chance to be engaged. Invasive Species Action Week is technically June 6-14 but this activity can run much longer. We've had photographs and credible sightings from several new locales in the Centr...
