Yeah you're right hellihooks, he could be making it up but he seemed pretty nonchalant about it in his description. He mentions that he read they're supposed to be found under 6,000 feet in his field guide so he probably just thought it was a unique find and didn't think much else of it. I doubt he'...

At the Tejon outing last year, Brent (Fundad's psudo-son?) flipped a cal king at 6100 (?) and at the same time J. Lemm found on at the same elevation, at another range further south. My understanding is he submitted them both as a note, to Herp Review, as new elevation records for Cal King. :thumb:...

I was checking some videos of this guy that I'm subscribed to on youtube and came across this video of a Cal King he claims to have found at 7,400 ft in the Panamint Range. My PB to date is a 6.5lb Alpers trout I caught when I was 10 on a lip ripperz plastic worm in Mammoth Lakes. Can't seem to find any pics at the moment sadly.

You'd have better luck in March probably. I'd imagine conditions are still dry for flipping in that part and I don't think boas are known for being too surface active in December...

Outstanding post. So many nice boas, I really like the Inyo county boa and all of the SB deserts.

They lay eggs and mostly live underground/under surface objects, eating termites, insect larvae, etc. I don't know how often they come to the open surface though and what for... To breed? :lol: :lol: :lol: jim Or it's possible they find mates underground too lol? That's why I said I don't know.

Very cool, yeah pics would be nice.

I cruised a DOR up there on Friday evening. Was pretty dried up so I think it was from Friday morning or Thursday evening. About 18 inches long if I had to guess, so I doubt it was a neo from this year.

Some of my older herping memories are from camping at Shaver Lake almost every summer as a kid in the western Sierra. I used to find dozens of Sierra Garters (?) everywhere in the grass along the lake.

Very nice, guys. I love that sidewinder picture too.

I was also up in Bishop, around mid June. Possibly around the same time you were. I saw a Panamint just outside of Lone Pine on the way up and caught a bunch of stockers and hooked into a decent 4lb Alper at Intake 2, up Bishop Creek Cyn.

I just started doing yard work for this guy last week who was telling me he kills all snakes (helleri, gophers, kings) he sees in or near his property and told me to kill any I might see (yeah right). :| He then told me about this "big black and white snake" he saw last year that he killed...

That rosy looks really big! I have never herped SoCal so I have no knowledge on finding rosys, but from what i have seen on the forum, rosys always look bigger that rubbers. yep thats me holding it. NEVER AGAIN lol How did you pick it up? Did you pin its head down first or free handle it completely? As fascinating as crotes are, you won't find me handling any lol. Not worth the risk IMO. Fresh DOR's are good enough if you want to get a close look at it and feel its skin.

@reako, that concrete on the edge of the patio is 14 inches so I'd guess the snake is 4.5-5ft or so. He looked pretty old and his skin was a bit rough but maybe he was going into a shed.

Awesome pics. I've been seeing a bunch of whiptails too around the house, their movement is way too erratic for me to get pics though lol.

I especially love that shot of the spiny, they really seem to like sitting perched up high.
