Re: Patternless Crotalus cerberus (same as AZ forum)

That's not true that "all or most females from this area exhibit this semi-patternless" trait". I've seen lots of highly patterned female there too. I don't think it's just females that can fade like this as adults either. It's something you can find in most populations of cerberus no...

Re: Crotalus identification

Been a while since I read the board but always enjoy these posts from parts less traveled.

My opinion based just on appearance is lutosus on the angel canyon snake. I've never seen that much black on the head of a young abyssus.

The chimney rock snake looks like a viridis.

They are very common in the Bagdad area and much farther north. In fact they go all they way to the border of Utah and into SW Utah. Farther west they are found in just about every range in the state.

The truth is you'll never know for sure unless you get blood or scale clippings. Best guess is speck X ruber hybrid, second best would be aberrant ruber but it's not looking pure to me. Panamint wouldn't be an option due to tail banding and lack of supra ocular crease.

It's a male. Tail is way too long and thick for a female and like hellerii and cerberus the males are usually larger and darker in color.
