One thing to watch out for. If you put fish in your wire minnow/bait traps in an attempt to attract nerodia (at least in my area) the raccoons tear the traps apart to get at the bait. Been there, done that. :shock:

I looked up black vultures one time because a guy had told me he saw one carrying a live snake and i didn't believe him. The book says of black vultures (but not of turkey vultures) "occasionally kills and eats prey."

the willingness of people, including news outlets, to believe snake "stories" never ceases to amaze me. if they fall for an 87-pound cottonmouth, would they believe a 200-lb. largemouth bass? a 400-lb. raccoon?

i'm not from that area, but i have visited. if i were you, i'd drive over to monahans sandhills state park one evening. you're also within 200 miles of the davis mtns and big bend natl park.

if it's not too late to reply, my advice is to drive down to the wichita mountains. it's a natl wildlife refuge, so all you can do is look, but it's a wonderful place.
