Re: Salamanders and Newts in North Central CA
There are records of both aneides and taricha from Amador, mostly within the western portions. Searching for t."torosa" will often yield more results, when t.sierrae was still considered a ssp. Also don't forget ensatina, and then hydromantes and long-toed higher up...

Re: trip report Corsica 2018
Update: Google maps did not fail me. Found 5 adult brook salamanders. Posting photos is too hard on this website, however there's photos on instagram and even on google (look up "kookamongus")

Looks to me like the variable reedsnake (c. lumbricoidea) though a lot thicker and more yellow bands than they usually have

Re: Garter grand slam in just 1 hour
Garter 6 looks like a valley to me, but has 8 labials rather than 7. Patterning is very off for the coast subspecies though, so i'll stick to just an abnormal valley

Re: A few Crotalus from the weekend
Devlin- is the boa from the same spot as the first pituophis? If so, that is very interesting as that place has changed dramatically, theres way less moisture and definitely no more hemlock. Crotes are the only snakes I encounter there regularly, with the occasional ringneck

Re: Range extensions in Marin?
Update 2: An unexpected possible new range extension HAS been found. I'm having trouble linking photos, but I've found a very interesting looking skink. It shows characteristics of both western and Gilbert's skinks, and has 8 labials. Definitely not what I expected to find, I have photos if anyone c...

Re: Range extensions in Marin?
An update, After performing scale counts on contia from several populations in Marin county, I found that only tenuis are found here, even in supposed longicaudae range just south of Bodega bay. Interestingly, while the northern populations had only 38, 32, and 36 caudals per locale, some of the sou...

Re: North American big cats
The only cat in north america ive seen is the bobcat, probably seen a good dozen around the bay area, especially in the east bay. I once got to see a bobcat get chased by a flock of turkeys, the cats seem a lot smaller in person

Early snakes in NorCal
First snakes of the year, a newborn norpac found outside a hibernaculum, and a larger one from about three feet in. Second photo taken with a DEPSTECH endoscope, I highly recommend this for exploring deeper regions of rock crevices that are not visible from outside, connects to your phone through bl...

How to properly upload pictures?
I've tried to upload pictures on topics, but they always display a message telling me they must be certain dimensions? Although looking at other user's uploaded pictures they look completely normal and not distorted the way mine look. Is there something I need to do to stop this, or something that o...

10 looks to be western pond turtle (actinemys marmorata pallida=actinemys pallida), tail long and skin cream brown (not yellowy) unlike Emys 7 is Pseudemys nelsoni, or possibly rubiventris (less likely) juvenile 8 is probably Pseudemys concinna, although not sure 9, like 8 18 ive got no idea beyond ...

Re: Range extensions in Marin?
the whipsnake was seen in a pile of rocks over a plastic pipe, in the central region of marin, grassy, hilly, and bone dry. About 11 am, clear sky with no wind, date was sometime in may 2018. I have returned to the pile in hopes of finding it again but never have.

Re: Range extensions in Marin?
great points, even if forest sharptails were in marin they probably have not been recorded yet. Another spot that might be good is the ridge behind kent lake, which is mainly dry redwood and tanoak forest. sharptails are very common here so i wouldn't be surprised if there were some isolated populat...

Re: Range extensions in Marin?
Another possibility is documenting the Forest Sharp-tailed Snake in the more shaded, forested areas in Marin County. The species occurs in Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and San Mateo Counties to the south and then north of Marin Co along the coast just above Fort Ross Park in Sonoma Co. Richard F. Hoyer...
