Herping recommendations for Houston
Hey everyone! About to take a random last minute trip to Houston, anyone can recommend some decent locals for winter herps? Ideally flipping for snakes but open to anything really. Leaving tomorrow, any advice much appreciated!

Re: Rare Mountain Snakes in Hong Kong
Strange several folks have said this now. Happy to say he wasent dead and he never played dead either, actually haven’t seen them do that before. You can check out more shots of him in the day time at www.hongkongsnakeid.com, wonder if you think he looks more alive in those shots. Either way I’ll be...

Re: Rare Mountain Snakes in Hong Kong
What are the temps up there in the coldest and hottest times of year? These guys tend to go for higher elevation, anywhere between 200 to 900m, at least in HK. Within that elevation I'd say you can average 10-15c at night in winter and +/- 25-28 at night in summer. Can go more extreme of course but...

Re: Rare Mountain Snakes in Hong Kong
Is the Red Mountain racer alive? It looks kind of funny... Yup, alive and well thankfully. Pretty chilled out temperament for the most part but once he decided to start moving there was no keeping him still for shots. Actually the most pristine Red I've ever come across, not a mark on him and brigh...

Re: Rare Mountain Snakes in Hong Kong
WOW, amazing snakes and pictures. I need to make it to HK soon! I was hoping to make it this fall, but looks like most my time will be in Fujian Province again. Thanks Dan! We work hard to try and present our herps in a good light so folks can ID them better. HK is a lot of fun for herping for sure...

Rare Mountain Snakes in Hong Kong
The herping gets a bit slow over the winter in Hong Kong, luckily there are a number of mountain species that are active in the cold. The problem is they are darn hard to find but fortunately our persistence has paid off over the last month. Attaching photos here of the very rare and very cool Ovoph...

Herping Hong Kong 2018
We started http://www.HongKongSnakeID.com in the late spring/early summer this year. Having the pictures and information up on a website that was getting a lot more interest than we expected was a real motivator to get out herping as often as possible so we could get more photos, video and first han...

Re: Banded Krait in Hong Kong
Thanks! Yeah, the Banded Kraits are a great find but not that common here in HK. Watched your last HK vid on YouTube, love those Greater Greens! Just found a big fat Chinese Cobra yesterday probably not too far from some of your stomping grounds. Check out the site (http://www.hongkongsnakeid.com) n...

Banded Krait in Hong Kong
I included some shots of a Burmese found last week in my last post. Within two days I got lucky and came across this Banded Krait, Bungarus fasciatus on a conduit walk. A very cool snake and a lifer for me. These snakes are generally pretty docile and slow moving but can be quite spastic in their mo...

The Snakes of Hong Kong
New joiner and excited to contribute. I am an avid herper in Hong Kong and just set up a website (http://www.hongkongsnakeid.com) with a buddy here dedicated to identifying all the snake species in Hong Kong. 35 species so far and lots of great herping along the way as you can imagine. Really happy ...
