Thanks, guys! Nice pictures, especially the corn snake! And of course, got to love the EDB! EDBs are one of the most exciting snakes to find, period. Finding a unique one like that was just the icing on the cake. I managed to find my lifer on a trip to Florida last week! Very exciting for sure!

Looks like you find a lot of timbers in your area as well. Yes, Andrew, Timbers, or Canebrakes, are one of the more common rattlesnake here in out part of GA/SC. I usually find them without much effort crossing the roads at different times of the year. Do you herp much in areas where there are EDBs...

That survey with the Orianne Society looks like a blast! I love the shine on those indigos, and even if the EDB was in a hole, you still managed a nice picture.

I have to agree with the other guys- that glass lizard is ENORMOUS! They grow 'em big in Kentucky, the ones I have seen in Kansas are 18 to 20 inches at most. This is sad :( I have on occasion come upon a dead snake under a rock, and I have always wondered if their deaths were herper related (some of them I was fairly certain were). Hopefully the offenders learned their lesson and will be more careful in the future.

I am pro wearing gloves when flipping. Last year I was hit by scorpions that were on the edges of rocks two outings in a row. From my understanding most scorpions in the U.S. aren't very dangerous, but those stings certainly did hurt. Be careful out there and stay aware of your surroundings. I hope ...

It is not unusual for female corn snakes to lay infertile eggs without mating. My corn snake that has been kept in her own container for her entire life has laid them 3 or 4 times now.

It looks like you found the night snake cruising. Do you find more of them by cruising or flipping in CO? The longnose is really nice as is the pink coachwhip. I really like the coloration on those Colorado snakes.

In 2004 and 2005 Quite a few of the snakes I found in Kansas had a fungus of some sort. Especially the Rat Snakes and Getula, followed by a few milks... I remember those years being wet, while I was out there. In 2010 I didn't see many with the fungus, but it was appeared to be a much drier year.. ...

8000 venomous snake bites a year in the US? That seems high, but I have nothing to base it on, so I could easily be wrong, but really 8000? That is an average of 167 bites per state (using the 48 that actually have venomous snakes), which is of course at average, so some states like Florida or Cali...

I had an interesting herping experience yesterday. My wife and I observed a pair of copperheads that at the time I thought were mating. That habitat is sick, I always enjoy your Arkansas posts! Do the Atrox tend to come out a bit earlier in the Spring than the Horridus? It would be awesome to see the two species in close enough proximity to get them in the same photograph.

I've seen many a bullsnake and none of them have ever displayed this behavior...

My only experience with cloacal bleeding was with a Western Hognose (I didn't even handle the snake was just near it taking pictures).

I flipped a Great Plains rat snake last year at 43 degrees. I am sure amphibians could be found at much colder temperatures.

Those are excellent photos! A couple of Florida's most classic species right there. My parents relocated to central Florida a while back and I am hoping some day to find those two species when I am visiting!

As someone who grew up in Maine, went to college in Vermont, and spent quite a bit of time in southern New England, I can appreciate how difficult snakes can be to locate in that part of the country! Great job, I especially enjoyed the copperheads, those are some gorgeous snakes!

My favorite snakes are pit vipers, hognose and kingsnakes. You certainly posted some nice examples of all of those, but that scarlet snake, WOW that takes the cake! I would be freaking out if I came across something with such a cool aberrant pattern. Great job and thanks for sharing!

Looks like you had another great year! Those central Plains milks are a lot nicer than most of the intergrades that I found. I really like those trans-pecos rat snakes, cool looking species. The habitat shots and rattlesnakes from your trips were great as well. Good luck with law school!

Awesome pictures! I love the variation of colors that you have there. I prefer to see the hands off approach with this sensitive species, you have some nice spots there and like you mentioned it will be important to keep knowledge of them minimal.

I always enjoy your posts, and this was no exception! You really do a great job on your habitat shots, I always mean to take habitat pictures but invariably forget. The hots are nice as always. I am guilty of not being too big a fan of water snakes, but man that midland is quite a looker!
