Re: Some recent finds in south Florida
Thanks, guys! Nice pictures, especially the corn snake! And of course, got to love the EDB! EDBs are one of the most exciting snakes to find, period. Finding a unique one like that was just the icing on the cake. I managed to find my lifer on a trip to Florida last week! Very exciting for sure!

Looks like you find a lot of timbers in your area as well. Yes, Andrew, Timbers, or Canebrakes, are one of the more common rattlesnake here in out part of GA/SC. I usually find them without much effort crossing the roads at different times of the year. Do you herp much in areas where there are EDBs...

I have to agree with the other guys- that glass lizard is ENORMOUS! They grow 'em big in Kentucky, the ones I have seen in Kansas are 18 to 20 inches at most. Loved the mud snake, the scarlet, and of course the various timbers. The water snakes there seem to be quite attractive. I usually think of N...

Well done, sir! I enjoyed all those milks and the combating timbers! I do a bit of road cruising in southern Kansas so it isn't too far away from you. I tend to like May and June in the Spring for road cruising. This is sad I have on occasion come upon a dead snake under a rock, and I have always wondered if their deaths were herper related (some of them I was fairly certain were). Hopefully the offenders learned their lesson and will be more careful in the future.

I am pro wearing gloves when flipping. Last year I was hit by scorpions that were on the edges of rocks two outings in a row. 8000 venomous snake bites a year in the US? That seems high, but I have nothing to base it on, so I could easily be wrong, but really 8000? That is an average of 167 bites per state (using the 48 that actually have venomous snakes), which is of course at average, so some states like Florida or Cali...
