Re: The Big Gartersnake Post
Great thread. That last Giant garter in Elliot's post is insane! And that first Red-Sided of Owen's is nothing to poke a stick at either. I wish I had a bunch of gnarly Garter snake pics to contribute but really these two are the only ones that come to mind... This thick and healthy Mountain Garter ...

Gotta love the variability of those Northwestern garters... I have to disagree with your opinion of Valley garters (fitchi) though, they're actually my favorite! I did notice a minor mistake in your write-up, you have the latin names for Valley garters and CA red-sided swapped, fitchi = valley and i...

Last spring while hunting Zonata in the central Sierra my dad turned up a Rubber at roughly 3,600'... I thought this seemed kinda low, but then again I am no expert on the range. Re: 2016 Yolo Bypass Survey
@ blacktara I think 2017 was the last year Dave did this, floodwaters moved all his boards around and in a way destroyed the survey. I can't imagine how bad the floods were last winter, a spot I had been hunting in spring 2018 was 6 feet underwater this year... That said it really is a shame, Dave h...

Outstanding.
I have a lot of respect for species that adapt to survive in disturbed/changing habitat, that's probably why I like Giant garters so much... living in nasty rice field canals and chowing down on invasive bullfrogs, they really are badass snakes...

Thanks, one of my favorite finds of the year so far. Seems like luck definitely plays a part in finding kingsnake morphs. Better late than never... Snake Highlights 2017 CA
Been a while since I last posted but figured I should put up some highlights from an awesome year. The 2016/2017 winter in California was one of the wettest on record, surpassing the 1982/1983 El Nino rain totals in many parts of the state. All this precipitation made 2017 an epic year for snake hun...

Yep I'm with rpecora on this one. After taking a better look at your picture, it looks like a patternless Red Spotted Toad. Nice finds.
I think your Toad is actually just a Western Toad (Anaxyrus boreas),
they can vary quite a bit in coloration/pattern.
Hopefully someones corrects me if I'm wrong about the Toad,
if that is in fact an Arroyo, that would be a very good find for that area.

Craig That's cool about Coasties near Cabazon, never thought to look for them there. Then again that whole transition area is really interesting, I've always wondered about how far certain desert species make it west toward Banning and how far certain coastal species make it east toward Palm Springs.
