Re: Could Pattern Mimicry in Snakes be Misinterpreted?
I personally think a lot of 'mimicry' cases in herps are false. Color and pattern similarities arose by convergence or some other ecological method instead. I question whether the bright colors of some aposematic species are more representative of a shared ancestral trait that hasn't evolved to be o...

I use the 50 dollar model and love it. Thinking about getting a second. I've had it for 2-3 years and it still works great. I use it mainly for flashes but sometimes for the camera itself and it holds a Canon 70D (without battery grip) fine. The only reason I could see for upgrading is if you needed...

I get 5m-10m reliably on my phone. That is good enough for me. My Garmin would rarely get much below 5m (sometimes 9 feet or so) unless you averaged the points. I used the Sightings app on my iphone 4s all around Arizona this year in some really remote areas with zero problems. I also hike with a ba...

Iphone. App = sightings (US $0.99). Easy to use and easy to migrate data into excel, shp, and GE.
OR a Garmin 60Cx (the older one, the new one sucks). This will give you a GPS with great signal but the garmin software sucks and is impossible to use long term.

There isn't a body of evidence for SFD mortality in the SE US. Some states / university are building up sampling protocols to test prevalence and range of this fungal infection. It should be noted that not all fungal infections (or even minor fungal blisters) are SFD! Currently there is no way to 10...

In Florida, Pigmy Rattlesnakes may very well reproduce once a year but northern forms are likely two years between reproductive events.
