Re: Feb 28th and later- Palm Beach County and South activity?
While we are on the topic of herping south Florida this time of year, I figured I'd mention that I'm heading down there (from North Carolina) March 2nd - 9th. My plans are very loose, camping here and there, herping, birding, snorkeling in the keys, but mostly staying in the Everglades/Big Cypress v...

Re: So Cal So Far (Mojave, SD County, Tejon Ranch, etc.)
Thanks for the comments! It was a fun spring/early summer. The Mojave Dessert Tortoise is beautiful. Do you have any close ups of the Patch-Nosed? Good Pics! :thumb: No, I unfortunately don't, and I haven't taken any pictures of the others that I have seen. Fantastic post David! Love all the diversi...

So Cal So Far (Mojave, SD County, Tejon Ranch, etc.)
In March of 2017 I moved to Barstow, CA, for a temporary position studying desert tortoises. Although the job location elicited eye rolls and sentiments when sharing the news with family and friends (no offense to my fellow Barstow-ians), I was excited about the potential herpetofauna I hoped to enc...

My apologies, but this post is merely to test embedding photos from Flickr- I am preparing a longer post but the photos are not being displayed in the preview. So here's a herp photo totally unrelated to that post topic: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1534/24423931774_297b36a87f_k.jpg Iguana iguana ...

Re: Kofa National Wildlife Refuge September 2016
Thanks for the responses- it was wonderful to share the experience with people who share the same passions, hopefully we can all get together and do it again sometime (despite my current residence on the east coast). Nice Arizona shirt! Indeed it is a nice shirt! Are any still available? I wo...

Kofa National Wildlife Refuge September 2016
This summer I worked and lived in California's Sierra Nevada mountains. In September I joined SurfinHerp, Nature Nate, and a few others on a trip to Kofa National Wildlife Refuge in Arizona. A big thanks to them for the invitation! We arrived in the evening and did a little road cruising and night h...

Herping Southern Cal 4-6 Sep?
Hello everyone, I am from the east coast, but am currently working in the Sierras studying mountain yellow legged frogs. I've got 4-6 of September free and am planning on exploring other parts of the state. Is anyone interested in joining me for herping? I was thinking of going to lower elevations i...

Re: Peruvian Amazonia 2016, part 3 of 3: Santa Cruz
John, You and I may have seen the exact same frog... I was at Santa Cruz this past January and also found a healthy, adult one-eyed H. cinerascens (pictured below). This guy was found on the entrance trail next to one of the bridges. Where did you see yours? https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1629/24684...

Re: Herping Arizona this November
Thanks for the reply Brian, it'll be great to be out there herps or no herps.
One additional inquiry: Does anyone have an opinion if Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is a safe area for solo campers and night hiking? I'm basically trying to decide between going there or the Chiricahuas.

Herping Arizona this November
Hello everyone, I will be travelling to Phoenix for the Amphibian Disease Conference over the weekend of October 30th. I plan on staying in Arizona until November 4th for some hiking/herping/camping- I'll likely rent a car and could probably make it as far as the Chiricahuas, but as of now I have no...

SIU herpetology club trip to Lawrence, KS
Hello, The Herpetology Club at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale is planning a weekend trip to Lawrence, KS May 8th - 10th. We plan on visiting the collection at KU and doing some field herping (no collecting, just admiring the animals and taking pictures). There will be approximately 10 of...

Herping New Orleans Area Next Weekend
I'm a grad student currently residing in the recently frigid (but thankfully warming) Carbondale, Il. I've got time off due to spring break and have managed to get myself a ride to New Orleans next weekend. I plan to get dropped off somewhere to camp and herp for a few days. From looking at maps and...

Joshua Tree vs. Death Valley for March
I am planning a trip to camp for a few nights in southern California next week. I will be starting in Las Vegas and heading west, hoping to find some southwestern herps (particularly phrynosoma). Any recommendations between Death Valley and Joshua Tree for this time of year? It looks like the weathe...
