Hi Hans, a wonderful story, each time I entered the Bornean jungle (and I did that many, many times) I hoped to see this amazing creatue, but I never did. I will centainly get the book!!

Well, the picture is better indeed but it's still hard to be 100% sure. The back of the depicted snake is more extensively black than in those specimens I have seen. I'm still pretty sure though (let's say 99%). However, I would need some morphological data to be absolutely certain….

I can't be 100% sure but I suspect the first snake (Waigeo) is a Dendrelaphis lineolatus. All the best, dendrelaphis

That's a lot indeed, on Santubong, Borneo, I found one specimen in nearly 100 days (4 hours per day). I guess differences between populations and ecosystemens can be great. No idea, I have never seen anything like it (neither in "the snakes of Borneo", "Amphibiens and Reptiles of Mount Kinabulu" or "Amphibien und Reptilien Sudost Asiens"). It might be an undescribed species. However, without morphological data, it's impossible to say
